Spirit of Wisdom and of Revelation

“[I always pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation [that gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of Him [for we know the Father through the Son]. And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit]…” (Ephesians 1:17, 18)

Books and different kinds of information sources cannot give you the true knowledge of God if you don’t have a personal fellowship with God himself. No matter how much information you have about God from these sources, you end up knowing about him but not knowing the person God in your life.

The type of knowledge these verse is talking about is the highest form of knowledge which is Epignosis, a knowledge gained by personal experience from the person of God himself. And according to these prayer, these true knowledge of God is gained when God impart us the Spirit of Wisdom and of Revelation, so that we may know him deeply, personally and in a very close and intimate way.  We can only experience this kind of relationship with God when the Holy Spirit floods our spiritual eyes of our true self by the light of God. As it says in 2 Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ is the One who has shone in our hearts to give us the Light of the knowledge of the glory and majesty of God [clearly revealed in the face of Christ.” So when this light shine in your heart and floods your spiritual eyes you will have the true knowledge of God which is revealed in the face of Jesus Christ.

God wants you to have this knowledge; he wants to impart you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation so that you may know him in his truest form as he has revealed himself in the person of Christ which lives in you. The first thing you know when God opens your spiritual eyes is the person of Jesus. Through the process of knowing the person of Jesus you will identify yourself in him, who you are in Christ and how you should act on it. When you fellowship with God deeply, personally and intimately you will start to know your true purpose by identifying yourself in him.

Meditate the Word

Colossians 2:2 “[For my hope is] that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in [unselfish] love so that they may have all the riches that come from the full assurance of understanding [the joy of salvation], resulting in a true [and more intimate] knowledge of the mystery of God, that is, Christ.”
